Was in support call with Vmware this morning with a issue on vmotion configuration on vSphere 4.1 . Though I have done that beforemany times but this time it was comming up with issue . From the support engineer they suggest me to use this best practise configuration for Cisco . Thought It’s good to share with all ..

interface GigabitEthernet0/27
description opesx02_vmotion
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport trunk allowed vlan 500
switchport mode trunk
spanning-tree portfast trunk

Then Use the VLAN ID on Network Configuration for that specific vSwitch . Check with vmkping from vSphere console pinging other vsphere vmotion interface IP .

For more information on vMothion and VMHA check out the folowing article from David Davis .
