Problem :

I was facing this issue in my Production SAMBA file server . Some of the user was complaning
while downloding the file from the share drive …it takes too long and eventually Crash .

After investigation in the /var/log/message while user is trying to open the file , I have came accross with the folloing error message .

Solution :

Trying to google around with problem and try to put some fix from there , but does not work .Then figure it out, the date on the server was wrong and ntpd was crashed . So with my understanding it was the time stamp on the file confusing the SAMBA and hence the document was crashing ..

Just put the following scripts under /etc/cron.hourly and My problem is solved for ever 🙂

#!/bin/bash
/etc/init.d/ntpd stop
ntpdate 10.80.0.1<>
/etc/init.d/ntpd start
